8th GRADE ACTIVITIES & FUND

SLIDE DECK - 1/22/25 MEETING 

 

Dear 8th Grade Parent/Guardian:

 

This is a very exciting time of year for our Walter Reed Middle School 8th grade students.   In conjunction with Friends of Reed, there are a variety of activities planned for all eligible 8th graders.  Eligibility is based on your 8th grader meeting the Culmination Requirements provided by Walter Reed Middle School.  

 

There are several events to look forward to: 

  • Jr. Grad Nite (non LAUSD sponsored or affiliated) - May 9th at Magic Mountain
  • 8th Grade Awards Ceremony - May 20th (school sponsored)
  • 8th Grade Bash - May 22nd, 5:00-8pm at Radford Studios (non LAUSD sponsored or affiliated)
  • 8th Grade Sugar and Slice - June 7th during school
  • Culmination ceremony - June 9th at 8am (school sponsored) 

More details for each of these activities will follow as we get closer to the date of the activity.

 

Donate to 8th Grade Non School Sponsored Activities

 

In order to fund the 8th Grade Bash and Sugar & Slice party, we are asking 8th Grade Parents/Guardians to contribute $40 per student.  Donations are voluntary and do not cover the cost of the Jr. Grad Night tickets (see below for Jr. Grad Night info).  We understand that some families can donate a smaller amount while others can give more.  Our goal is 100% 8th Grade participation.  For the 8th Grade Dance and Luncheon, no student will be denied the ability to participate due to inability to donate.  

 

Refund policy: Please confirm your student’s eligibility prior to making your payment, as we are not able to provide refunds. 

 

These events cannot take place without parent volunteers. Please click here to sign up to volunteer. 

If you are not already an LAUSD approved volunteer please click here to fill out your paperwork, then you must see Myriam Arechiga in the parent center to finalize it. This must be done asap in order to volunteer at school. 

 

The deadline to donate is April 11, 2025

JR. GRAD NITE AT MAGIC MOUNTAIN

Friday, May 9, 2025

3:08 PM Reed Dismissal

4:00 PM Students arrive back at Reed

4:30 PM Departure from Reed to Magic Mountain

12:30 AM Pickup time at WRMS



Friends of Reed is sponsoring Jr. Grad Nite at Magic Mountain. This activity is not a LAUSD event and students elect to attend. 



The cost of one ticket is $140 and includes admission for 1 student, dinner, as well as transportation to and from Magic Mountain.  Students can NOT use season passes to participate in Jr Grad Nite. You must purchase a Jr. Grad Nite ticket. 

  • Exclusive hours for Jr. Grad Nite are 6PM – 12AM with 8th grade students from multiple schools attending this event.  
  • Students may purchase food/drink/souvenirs from the concession stands throughout the park using their own money. The park does NOT accept cash. Students must have a credit card or Apple Pay in order to make purchases. They do have kiosks that convert cash to pre-paid debit cards if needed.
  • Students will be placed in groups alphabetically with an approved parent or staff volunteer who will be available to the students if needed. These groups are for the purpose of organization and students do not need to stay with these groups at the park.
  • Students will be allowed to roam freely within the park, with departure time at 12:00 AM.
  • 8th grade students attending this event must be Walter Reed Middle School students and must ride the bus to and from Magic Mountain. No friends or siblings are allowed to attend.
  • Jr. Grad Nite students must adhere to Magic Mountain dress code. 
  • If a student cannot afford the full cost of the ticket, but would like to attend, please contact Friends of Reed at info@friendsofreed.org



REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS:

- No refunds after April 14, 2025 if your child is unable to attend for any reason, as we cannot get a refund from the park. In the past, students have wanted tickets at the last minute and have been able to purchase the tickets from families who have had to cancel last minute. 

 

More information will follow regarding this event as we get closer to the event date.
